What is Digital Transformation?

New and existing businesses strive to get the greatest return on their investments, whether they be in their people, their technology, or their processes.  Taking the steps necessary to unify the tools you have with the processes you execute can generate huge benefits for professionals and businesses.  So often, money is spent on buying or developing new technology solutions with no real plan for implementation and adoption. Those expenditures go into acquisition over adoption; commonly resulting in technologies that underperform related to your needs. This is where digital transformation comes into play. By understanding the technology you already have, the points of integration with your processes, and identifying ways to help your people work less and accomplish more, digital transformation can be business changing.

It's a people problem not a technology one

The struggle people have with technology is often not of their own doing nor is it the fault of the technology. The real culprit lies in the gap between knowing what you want to do and knowing the best ways to do it with the technology you have at hand. So much technology is utilized to only a small percentage of it's capability. Too often we go off on a chase looking for the "perfect tool" only to realize we never understood what perfect would look like when we found it.

A good technology company doesn't sell technology

While that sounds counter-intuitive, the key to successful digital transformations is the implementation of solutions rather than technology. Solutions can be successful only when there is an understanding of the problems at hand, the tools available, and the people tasked with solving those problems with said tools. It is far easier for a technology company to sell you a pre-packaged solution than to take the time to understand your needs and find the right fit.

Art Gelwicks, Owner, Consultant, and Coach

As a consulting professional for more than 30 years, I have had the opportunity to work in almost all areas of technology.  From infrastructure to coding, databases to servers, web development to training, there aren't many areas I haven't had a chance to help people. It's the recognition that bridging the gap has the greatest impact that has motivated the formation of GelwicksTech.

Having been a consultant, trainer, developer, and designer I understand the challenges business and technology have when it comes to speaking the same language. Whether it's collaboration or project management, business requirements or design, there are points of commonality that can be found and shared no matter what the project. Our goal is to help people apply their technology in ways that benefit their operations, maintain their budgets, and find the levels of success they are striving for.
